WebAug 22, 2007 · The Cumberland Plateau physiographic section is the most southerly part of the Appalachian Plateaus province of the Appalachian Highlands Region. Hereafter called the Cumberland Plateau, the section is identified by its pattern of relief features and landforms, which differ significantly from those of adjacent sections. Weba landform, this great plateau reaches from north-central Alabama through Tennessee and Kentucky and Pennsylvania to the western New York border. Geographers call this landform the Appalachian Plateau, although it is known by various names as it passes through the differ ent regions. In Tennessee and Kentucky, it is called the Cumberland Plateau.
